Underline text for Facebook, copy and paste

Generate “Underline” text for Facebook and paste it into your bio, posts or comments. Facebook has no native formatting: these Unicode characters are the easiest way to show this style there.

Tip: some styles break screen readers — best kept for titles and hooks.

Where these characters come from

The characters of the Underline style come from the Unicode block Combining Diacritical Marks (U+0332). Capitals start at U+0NAN, lowercase at U+0NAN.

They are characters in their own right, not formatted Latin letters: to a computer, “a” and its underline counterpart are two different characters, as in “S̲a̲l̲u̲t̲”. That is what lets the style survive copy and paste with no font to install — and also why a search for an ordinary word will not find its styled version.

Also known as souligné or texte souligné, depending on the platform and the habit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Underline text work on Facebook?
Yes. Underline uses real Unicode characters rather than a font: they show up on Facebook in bios, posts and comments, with nothing to install. The exact rendering still depends on the system font of the device reading it — the same character can vary slightly between a phone and a computer.
How do I copy Souligné text?
Type your text in the field: the preview updates on every keystroke. Then click “Copy” — the clipboard receives the Unicode characters themselves, not a format. You can paste them into any field that accepts text, with nothing to install.
Is this real text?
Yes, these are standard Unicode characters, just like Latin letters. They paste anywhere and survive copying. They do not replace the native formatting of platforms that offer it, which stays readable by search and by screen readers.
How do I write underline text on Facebook?
Facebook has no formatting button for this. Type your text above, click “Copy”, then paste the result into the field you want — bio, post or comment. The style is carried by the characters themselves, so there is nothing to install.
Is underline text really a font?
No. A font is a file installed on the device showing the text; if your reader lacks it, they see something else. Here the shape lives inside the Unicode character itself, which is why it travels with the text from one app to another.
Why do some letters stay unchanged?
The Unicode block in use does not always cover the full alphabet: accented letters, cedillas and some punctuation have no styled counterpart in it. Those characters are left exactly as you typed them, which is preferable to an approximate substitution that would change the meaning of a word.
