Where these characters come from
The characters of the Bold italic style come from the Unicode block Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (U+1D468+). Capitals start at U+1D468, lowercase at U+1D482.
They are characters in their own right, not formatted Latin letters: to a computer, “a” and its bold italic counterpart are two different characters, as in “𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒕”. That is what lets the style survive copy and paste with no font to install — and also why a search for an ordinary word will not find its styled version.
